A big rig carrying an estimated 50,000 pounds of cargo crashed late Wednesday morning on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Santa Fe Springs, blocking all northbound lanes and causing an hours-long traffic backup affecting scores of motorists.
No one was injured in the 11 a.m. crash, which triggered a SigAlert.
The truck’s trailer ended up on its side, blocking all northbound lanes, as well as the transition road to the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway and the Studebaker Road onramp to the 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Part of the trailer also ended up down an embankment, the CHP reported.
The Studebaker onramp was reopened about 1:15 p.m. Caltrans reported about 4:45 p.m. that the big rig had been removed and all lanes and connectors were reopened.
