A 49-year-old motorist who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 15 in Corona was identified Wednesday.
Michael Pashley of Santa Ana was fatally injured at about 3:55 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-15, just south of El Cerrito Road.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Corey told City News Service that Pashley was in an Acura SUV when he was involved in a collision with a big rig, running into the rear of the semi, which prompted him to stop in the slow lane.
The trucker pulled to the shoulder of the freeway as the victim got out of his vehicle, apparently to survey the damage.
“After he exited his vehicle, he was struck by an unknown tractor-trailer pulling two gravel trailers,” Corey said. “The driver of the tractor-trailer did not stop.”
Pashley was pronounced dead at the scene 10 minutes later by Corona Fire Department paramedics.
Officers searched the area for the hit-and-run rig but could not locate it, Corey said.
The trucker involved in the initial accident was not hurt and provided what details he could to investigators.
Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
