The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Thursday for the fifth consecutive day after hitting a record high, decreasing four-tenths of a cent to $4.702.
The average price has dropped 1.4 cents over the past five days, including three-tenths of a cent Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The streak of decreases follows a run of 16 increases in 18 days totaling 12.5 cents that boosted the average price to a record $4.716 Saturday.
The average price is 1 cent less than one week ago but 12.2 cents more than one week ago and $1.547 higher the one year ago.
The Orange County average price recorded its largest decline since Aug. 20, dropping eight-tenths of cent to $4.67. It has dropped five times in six days since moving within one-tenth of a cent of matching its record high of $4.69, decreasing 1.9 cents, including one-tenth of a cent Wednesday.
The Orange County average price is 1.1 cents less than one week ago but 13 cents more than one month ago and $1.539 greater than one year ago.
