A fire that scorched 200 acres and devastated an upscale hilltop neighborhood in Laguna Niguel was fully contained Tuesday.

The Coastal Fire destroyed 20 homes and damaged 11 others after it erupted May 11, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but OCFA officials said Tuesday both were “recovering and doing well.”

About 30 residences on Coronado Pointe, where the bulk of the fire devastation was focused, remained under mandatory evacuation, according to Laguna Niguel city officials. At the height of the fire, 900 residences were under evacuation orders.

The fire was reported at 2:44 p.m. Wednesday near the South Orange County Wastewater Authority’s Coastal Treatment Plant, embarking on a relentless wind- and terrain-driven march.

Despite the destruction, there were no reports of injuries to civilians or their pets.

Laguna Niguel city staff members are available to assist residents of the area still impacted by the Coastal Fire at 949-362-4300.
