A plan to turn over jurisdiction of about 1.2 miles of beach property to Laguna Beach was approved Tuesday by the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The beaches that will be turned over to the city include Aliso Beach, Camel Point Beach, Laguna Royale Beach, Table Rock Beach, Thousand Steps Beach and West Street Beach. The city will take over maintenance and lifeguard services by Feb. 28. The county will pay $22 million to the city as well.
“It’s a win-win situation for both the county and the city,” Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett said. “We will no longer have to maintain these very expensive grounds… And the county will actually break even in six to eight years and save a substantial amount of money down the line that we can invest in other parks programs.”
