The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Monday for the 11th consecutive day, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $4.93, its highest amount since April 22.

The average price has risen 10.2 cents over the past 11 days, including 1.4 cents Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The streak of increases follows a run of six decreases in seven days totaling 2.4 cents.

The average price is 6.7 cents more than one week ago and 2.3 cents higher than one month ago but $1.222 lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.564 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5.

The Orange County average price rose for the 10th time in 11 days, increasing two-tenths of a cent to $4.903, its highest amount since April 20. It has risen 11.4 cents over the past 11 days, including 1.2 cents Sunday. The Orange County average price increased three consecutive days, including 2.6 cents May 19, dropped one-tenth of a cent last Monday, then resumed increasing Tuesday.

The Orange County average price is 7.9 cents more than one week ago and 4.1 cents higher than one month ago but $1.231 less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.556 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5.

The increases are expected to continue because of refinery issues, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations.

The Los Angeles and Orange County average prices are both the second-highest on Memorial Day, behind only the $6.162 and $6.143 averages in 2022.

The national average price rose four-tenths of a cent to $3.582, one day after dropping one-tenth of a cent. It is 4.2 cents more than one week ago but 3.3 cents less than one month ago and $1.028 lower than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.434 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14. It is also at the second-highest amount for a Memorial Day, behind only the $4.619 average in 2022.
