A major Long Beach east-west artery was shut down for hours Saturday after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole, knocking wires to the ground.
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Del Amo Boulevard near Orange Avenue, Long Beach Firefighter Brian Fisk told City News Service.
No one was taken to a hospital for treatment, Fisk said.
The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Long Beach police Officer Eric Stachura said.
The man refused medical treatment but was taken into custody because it was believed impaired driving was a factor, Stachura said. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment prior to booking.
The fallen wires were used for internet and telephone service, he said.
A second crash occurred when a passing vehicle struck the downed wires, with no injuries reported, he said.
Del Amo Boulevard was closed between Orange and Cherry avenues for repair of the downed wires.
