The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Sunday for the 71st time in the last 72 days, falling seven-tenths of a cent to $4.833.
The average price has dropped $1.481 over the past 72 days, including 1.2 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
It is 8.5 cents less than one week ago and 35.3 cents less than one month ago, but 16.1 cents more than one year ago. The average price has decreased $1.661 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price fell nine-tenths of a cent to $4.662, its 39th decrease in the last 41 days. The Orange County average price is 8.8 cents less than one week ago and 37.7 cents lower than one month ago, but 12.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.797 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped for the 70th time in 73 days, falling nine-tenths of a cent to $3.158. It is 8.5 cents less than one week ago, 23.2 cents lower than one month ago and 13.7 cents cheaper than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.858 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
“Historically, crude oil tends to drop nearly 30% from late September into early winter with gasoline prices trailing the play,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. “More than half of all U.S. fuel locations have gasoline below $3 per gallon. By the end of the year, the national average may dip that low as well.”
