A groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday for the construction of a new clubhouse at The Lights at Indio Golf Course.

The only fully night-lit golf course in the Coachella Valley, The Lights has been in operation since 1965. Its old clubhouse, more than six decades old, was torn down earlier this summer.

The planned 4,500-square-foot facility is intended through its design to “elevate community engagement and support a variety of events,” according to a city statement. Final plans feature a full commercial kitchen, a dining area, a bar and lounge, a pro shop, meeting/event spaces and an outdoor patio.

The city is aiming for a spring 2025 opening.

“We are thrilled to break ground on this exciting project, which will provide an enhanced experience for our community and visitors,” Mayor Lupe Ramos Amith said. “The new clubhouse will not only serve as a hub for golfers but will also be a vibrant venue for events and gatherings, further solidifying The Lights as a key destination in the Coachella Valley.”
