A smoke alarm awakened and alerted a family in Westminster to a fire in their garage Wednesday, which firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority extinguished.
Fire crews responded to the alarm at the one-story home on Cynthia Drive just after midnight and found heavy flames coming from the garage, the fire authority reported.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the home and no injuries were reported, but the family was forced to evacuate.
The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the family and firefighters are on scene investigating the cause.
