Multiple people were injured Thursday in a crash involving a fire department ambulance on the northbound Foothill (241) Toll Road in Irvine.
The crash occurred around 6:54 p.m. near Tomato Springs Road, where an ambulance rolled over, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A helicopter landed on the northbound side of the toll road shortly after 7:15 p.m., and the toll road was closed at Irvine Boulevard to the northbound San Joaquin Hills (133) Toll Road.
Traffic was diverted at Portola Springs.
KCAL reported that at least 12 people sustained injuries, and several victims were airlifted to a hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown.
