The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped one-tenth of a cent Sunday to $4.408, its lowest amount since Sept. 26, 2021.
The average price is 3.8 cents less than one week ago, 9.9 cents less than one month ago and 44.4 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $2.086 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The Orange County average price also dipped one-tenth of a cent, to $4.329, its lowest amount since Dec. 24, 2022. It is 3.8 cents less than one week ago, 7.8 cents less than one month ago and 35.6 cents less than one year ago. The Orange County average price has dropped $2.13 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.
While “it’s hard to say how much lower they will drop” Southern California “gas prices often decrease during” December, said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
The national average price decreased for the 11th consecutive day, dropping two-tenths of a cent to $3.018. It is 3.3 cents less than one week ago, 7.1 cents less than one month ago and 16.7 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.998 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
“The national average is tantalizingly close to falling below $3 a gallon, and it could happen in a few days,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said on Thursday. “But 32 states already have an average below or well below $3. Hockley County, Texas appears to have the lowest county average, at $2.30.”
