A 38-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to more than five years in prison for triggering a drug-fueled, eight-car crash that killed a woman in Anaheim.
Luis Javier Garcia-Pedroza drove through a red light going south on Magnolia Avenue and crashed into the car being driven eastbound on Ball Road by 36-year-old Vianey Granillo Ivey of Hawaiian Gardens about 2:15 p.m. Dec. 22, 2022, according to police.
Another victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for moderate injuries, and nine others complained of pain but were treated on scene and did not require or declined to be examined at a hospital, police said.
Garcia-Pedroza was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison for his guilty pleas to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, both felonies.
Garcia-Pedroza also admitted a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on one of the victims of the crash.
