Actor Josh Gad announced Wednesday he was withdrawing from this weekend’s performances of “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl because he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Gad revealed the diagnosis in a social media post, saying he was making the announcement “with enormous heartbreak.”

“Anyway, out of an abundance of caution and respect for my cast, I will not be performing in `Jesus Christ Superstar’ this weekend (unless I test negative),” he wrote. “It truly breaks my heart, but I can assure you all that the show is going to be one of the greatest things you will ever see. I hope at some point you get to see me wear the crown and show you what we’ve been up to, because it was quite something, but for now, sadly, I will not be able to grace the Hollywood Bowl.”

Gad had been scheduled to portray Herod in the production, which stars Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and Adam Lambert as Judas.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Bowl.

It was unclear who will take over the role of Herod from Gad.
