Santa Ana-based Behr Paint Company unveiled an earthy olive green called “Grounded” Wednesday as its 2027 Color of the Year, marking the 10th anniversary of the company’s annual color program.
The company described Grounded as a blend of olive and moss tones with subtle brown undertones and said the color was selected to reflect growing interest in nature-inspired home design.
“Grounded is a reminder that the most meaningful spaces are the ones that help us connect with the rhythms of everyday life,” Kayla Kratz, head of color at Behr Paint Company, said. “The shade’s organic warmth creates a sense of calm and renewal, making every room feel inviting and effortlessly livable.”
Grounded will anchor Behr’s 2027 Color Trends Palette, which includes warm neutrals, earthy tones, muted pinks, clay hues and blues. The collection also brings back seven previously offered colors — Coastal Beige, Wheat Grass, Environmental, Denim Light, Smokey Claret, Sarsaparilla and Mozart.
“For the past decade, our Color of the Year has done more than identify a defining color. It has helped people translate shifts in culture and design into inspiration they can confidently make their own,” Andy Lopez, chief marketing officer at Behr Paint Company, said.
To mark the anniversary, Behr said it is donating $250,000 to Habitat for Humanity to support affordable homeownership programs, including construction materials and other needs.
The company also cited a survey it commissioned of 1,000 Americans in which 77% of respondents said they turn to nature when life feels chaotic, while 84% said the right paint color is an important factor in making a space feel like home.
Behr Paint Company, headquartered in Santa Ana, is a subsidiary of Masco Corp. and manufactures architectural paints and stains in the United States and Canada.
