A brush fire that broke out Friday just east of Lake Mathews charred nearly an acre before crews knocked it down.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 10:45 a.m. in the area of El Sobrante and Cajalco roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning to the east at a slow rate, across an open field. No homes or other structures were threatened.
Firefighters quickly surrounded the blaze and stopped its forward rate of spread within 10 minutes. The fire was fully contained just after 11 a.m., according to reports from the scene.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the blaze.
