A brush fire broke out near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Friday.
The blaze, reported about 3:05 p.m. on Bureau of Land Management land off Tram Way, south of the lower Tram station, had charred 100 acres by 4:40 p.m., according to the Palm Springs Fire Department.
Capt. Nathan Gunkel said reports indicating a downed aircraft could have been responsible were unfounded. He said aircraft were summoned to assist in the firefight due to the remote location of the blaze.
Tramway spokesman Greg Purdy said Tram operations are continuing as usual. Northbound traffic on Tram Way was stopped at 3:25 p.m. for about an hour, but vehicles have since been allowed to resume travel. Southbound traffic was not affected, he said.
No injuries were reported, and no evacuations have been ordered.
