A five-acre brush fire burning north of the Riverside (91) Freeway and State Route 71 interchange Monday afternoon was generating heavy smoke and causing traffic delays.
The blaze was reported at about 1:30 p.m. in the Prado Basin, and unincorporated county area northwest of Corona, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The fire prompted a Sigalert to be issued as all northbound lanes on SR-71 were shut down, as were the eastbound and westbound connectors from the 91 Freeway to the northbound SR-71 in Corona, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Multiple fire agencies were assisting county firefighters. A water-dropping helicopter and two air tankers were also deployed.
