The driver of a big rig apparently collided with a car Saturday, lost control and went off the Riverside (91) Freeway, crashing into an apartment building in Cerritos.

The crash was reported at 9:09 a.m. on the eastbound Riverside Freeway at Bloomfield Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The big rig reportedly collided with a gray Toyota Camry, left the freeway, went down an embankment and hit the front of a building at the Aria Apartment Homes, the CHP said.

Water gushed from the apartment building, according to a report from the scene.

A SigAlert was issued at 10:05 a.m. shutting down lanes 3 and 4 of the eastbound Riverside Freeway at Bloomfield while Caltrans repaired a broken guard rail and the big rig was cleared from the scene. The lanes were reopened about 8:15 p.m.

Any injuries resulting from the crash were minor enough that hospitalization was not required, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters told City News Service.
