A tractor-trailer overturned at an intersection south of Corona Thursday, seriously injuring the trucker and blocking a roadway.

The crash happened about 10 a.m. on Cajalco Road at Temescal Canyon Road, within the unincorporated community of El Cerrito, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that the big rig jackknifed on a bend in the roadway, going over on its side but missing other vehicles in the process.

Corona police officers reached the location first and found the trucker trapped in the rig and incoherent, according to the CHP.

Riverside County Fire Department firefighters arrived within a few minutes and extricated the victim, who was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

About 10:45 a.m., tow trucks raised the tractor-trailer back onto its wheels, and it was removed by the company that owns it, according to the CHP.

Cajalco was completely shut down in both directions between Eagle Canyon and Temescal Canyon roads, officials said.

The closure was expected to be lifted by 11:30 a.m.
