The crash was reported about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the eastbound 60 near the Country Village Road exit ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Juan Quintero said the 2004 Toyota Solara veered off the freeway for unknown reasons, then flipped, rolling several times before coming to rest on an embankment.
CHP officers reached the location within a few minutes but could not immediately find the motorist — only the significantly damaged Toyota.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the driver walked away from the scene sometime after the collision,” Quintero said.
A search of the surrounding area led to the discovery of the victim, whose identity was not disclosed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to Quintero.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
