Riverside County mountains, high deserts and passes will see gusty conditions subside Sunday evening before giving way to a week of dry, warm weather across the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The westerly winds are expected to be between 20 to 30 mph with gusts reach up to 55 mph, with the strongest blowing past Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass into the northern Coachella Valley.
A wind advisory will be in effect through 1 a.m. Monday for the mountains, Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
“Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects,” the NWS warned.
A dust advisory issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District will also be in effect until 1 a.m. Monday in the San Gorgonio Pass and the Coachella Valley.
Sunday’s highs were expected to reach 85 degrees in Thermal, 84 in Palm Springs, 75 in Riverside, 74 in Lake Elsinore and 68 in Beaumont, the NWS said.
Looking ahead, forecasters said a storm system crossing the eastern Pacific Ocean could spell rain for California next weekend.
“Count on cooler weather and hopefully it can be a meaningful addition to our lagging seasonal precipitation totals,” the NWS said.
