The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Riverside County decreased by one to 97, according to the latest state figures out Saturday.
Nine of those patients were being treated in intensive care, the same as Friday’s total.
One month ago, 59 people were hospitalized throughout the county with a COVID infection, seven of whom were ICU patients, according to Riverside University Health System data. The ICU patient count has generally remained at or below 10 since the end of March.
County Department of Public Health figures released this week showed that among those hospitalized with a COVID diagnosis during the month of May, roughly 35% — one in three patients — had been fully vaccinated with a SARS-CoV-2 therapeutic.
Officials said the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 is 622,093.
The RUHS said that in the past 26 months, a total 6,539 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded, unchanged from a week ago.
The number of known active virus cases in the county, based on available data, is 5,069, compared to 4,191 a week ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 622,093 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are now 610,485.
The county does not report COVID data on weekends.
