A possible electrical burnout that emitted smoke on the upper floor of a commercial office building in Menifee Wednesday prompted an evacuation of the structure while firefighters attempted to identify the source.
The fire alarm activated at about 11 a.m. within the Hope Medical Arts Plaza in the 29800 block of Haun Road, just west of Interstate 215, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews and a truck company were sent to the location and encountered workers in a multi-story building evacuating amid a ringing alarm.
Firefighters initiated a search of the structure and detected smoke likely connected to an electrical malfunction on the third floor, according to officials at the scene.
No signs of fire were immediately found.
As of 11:30 a.m., firefighters were continuing their search, while workers and customers remained confined to the parking area.
