The Coachella Valley Firebirds will open their inaugural season Oct. 16 at Calgary and play at new Acrisure Arena near Palm Desert for the first time Dec. 18 against the Tucson Roadrunners, the American Hockey League announced Thursday.

Because their arena is under construction, the Firebirds — the NHL Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate — will begin the season by playing 18 road games and four in the Seattle area before their first home game.

The Firebirds’ weekday home games will begin at 7 p.m. except for the games on Jan. 16, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Feb. 20, Washington’s Birthday, which will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday games will start at 6 p.m. and Sunday games at 3 p.m.

All but two of the Firebirds’ 32 games at Acrisure Arena will be against fellow Pacific Division teams. The exceptions are the March 11-12 games against the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars’ AHL affiliate.

Season tickets are available on the team’s website, Single-game tickets will be available at the end of November.
