An investigation was continuing Monday into a rollover crash in Desert Hot Springs that left a 51-year-old man dead.

At 10:20 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the crash on Dillon and Long Canyon roads, according to Officer David Torres from the California Highway Patrol.

Torres said a man driving a Honda CRV southbound at a high rate of speed on Long Canyon Road failed to stop at the stop sign when he reached the intersection of Dillon Road.

When he crossed the intersection, the vehicle hit a dirt berm, became airborne and subsequently overturned into a desert area alongside the roadway, according to Torres. The driver, later identified by the coroner’s office as Roberto Moscato of Desert Hot Springs, was not wearing a seatbelt and thrown from the Honda during the crash, Torres said.

It was unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call Officer Quintero at 760-772-5300.
