A 32-year-old man was shot and killed by police officers Friday during a domestic disturbance incident in Corona.

Corona Police Department officers responded at approximately 2 p.m. to the 2400 block of Peacock Lane regarding a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived at the scene, they learned that the suspect was armed with a handgun and made comments about shooting his wife and the police, said Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect to surrender, but he did not comply. A short time later, the suspect, identified as Peter Birmingham, of Corona, fired his handgun at an overhead police aircraft and officers shot Birmingham, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers or Birmingham’s wife were injured during this incident said Kouroubacalis.

The Riverside County Sheriffs Department’s Force Investigation Detail is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Corona Police Department’s Critical Incident Team. Anyone with information regarding this shooting was asked to call the Corona Police Department at 951-736-2330.
