A fire that erupted in a Riverside home caused major damage, displacing the five occupants, none of whom were injured, officials said Friday.

The blaze was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday at 983 W. La Cadena Drive, adjacent to Interstate 215, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Bruce Vanderhorst said three engine crews and a truck company — numbering 17 personnel — were sent to the location and encountered heavy smoke rising from of the attic of the single-story residence.

Vanderhorst said that firefighters contained the flames to the upper tier of the house, but damage was extensive, estimated to be roughly $100,000.

The five adults living at the property were displaced, and Red Cross volunteers were requested to assist them with finding temporary alternate lodgings, according to Vanderhorst.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
