Two people were injured Thursday in a three-vehicle wreck on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway roughly halfway between Beaumont and Moreno Valley.
The crash happened about 10:15 a.m. on the eastbound 60, just east of Timothy Lane, in the rugged, largely unpopulated area known as the Badlands, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that a Ford pickup, BMW hatchback and Dodge Ram 1500 pickup were involved in a chain collision, possibly triggered when the driver of the Ford rear-ended the BMW. No other details were immediately available.
The crash forced a temporary closure of both eastbound lanes.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location a short time later and found two motorists suffering from moderate injuries. They were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment.
As of 11:15 a.m., at least one eastbound lane remained shut down while CHP officers conducted a preliminary investigation and cleared the wreckage.
