Two people were killed and one injured Monday in a two-vehicle crash in San Jacinto.

The collision happened about 6:25 a.m. on the westbound Ramona Expressway, near Warren Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A compact SUV and pickup truck impacted at the location, though the circumstances were unclear, according to the CHP. One of the vehicles overturned in lanes.

Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location within minutes and found the occupants of the overturned vehicle dead.

The motorist in the other vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment, according to the fire department.

The CHP said there was a pitbull in the vehicle that flipped over, and the canine survived. It was taken by sheriff’s deputies to a veterinary clinic for evaluation.

The westbound side of the expressway was shut down until about 8 a.m. while a preliminary investigation was conducted and the wreckage was cleared.
