Extremely hot temperatures prompted the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory in Riverside County Saturday.
The advisory was in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Coachella Valley, where temperatures ranging from 100 to 115 degrees were expected. A heat advisory was also issued for the areas of downtown Riverside, Moreno Valley, Hemet, Perris, Beaumont and Corona, where temperatures ranged from 96 to 100 degrees.
The South Coast Air Quality Management District also issued an air quality alert in the Coachella Valley due to increased particle pollution form blowing dust. That alert was in effect from 3 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday and included the areas of Indio, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Palm Desert Country, La Quinta and Coachella.
Sunday’s temperatures were expected to reach 87 in the Riverside metropolitan area, 89 in Hemet and 105 in the Coachella Valley.
Temperatures were expected to drop a bit early next week, settling in the 80s in metropolitan Riverside before rising again to 87 by Thursday and 92 Friday, according to the NWS.
Hemet’s temperatures during the week were expected to range from the mid-80s to low 90s, reaching as high as 95 on Friday.
Temperatures in the Coachella Valley were expected to remain in the triple digits, reaching 107 on Thursday and 110 on Friday, according to the NWS.
