A 33-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured when he exited Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore and veered onto the dirt shoulder, where his bike skidded on rocks and flipped over, authorities said Monday.
The deadly crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday on the California Oaks Road exit from southbound I-15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Mike Lassig said the victim, identified only as a Lake Elsinore man, was riding his 2006 Harley Davidson at an unconfirmed speed when he “failed to negotiate a sharp right curve in the off-ramp.”
The motorcycle ended up on the shoulder, where it traveled roughly 200 feet and “overturned,” causing the victim to be “ejected onto the rock-covered portion of the shoulder,” Lassig said.
Witnesses called 911, and Murrieta Fire & Rescue paramedics reached the location within a few minutes, rendering aid until the gravely injured rider could be transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died less than an hour later.
The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP Temecula office at 951-466-4300.
