The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped two-tenths of a cent for the second consecutive day Saturday, to $4.491.

The average price is six-tenths of a cent less than one week ago, 1.7 cents more than one month ago, and $1.004 less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.882 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price dropped 1.3 cents to $3.217, its 29th decrease in the past 30 days. It is 6.4 cents less than one week ago, 22.8 cents less than one month ago and 64.1 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.799 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“There are an ever-increasing number of states east of the Rockies that have some retail gas locations selling regular for under $3 a gallon, so drivers will have more in their wallets with autumn approaching,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. “Should the national average fall below $3, it will be the first time since May 2021.”
