Firefighters were attempting to contain a blaze at a single-story house in Coachella Tuesday.

The fire was reported shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Calendula Avenue and Hibisco Street, according to a Riverside County Fire Department statement. The first unit in the area noted smoke emanating from the dwelling.

Initially reported as abandoned, the structure was found to be occupied by four men, two women and one juvenile, according to a department update. Assistance from the Red Cross was requested for all seven people.

Fire crews reported “good progress” toward containment and anticipated remaining on site for approximately two hours.

The intersection was closed while crews worked on the fire.
