A motorcyclist was killed on Interstate 15 north of Lake Elsinore Thursday when he apparently lost control of his bike, and it overturned, hurling him onto the hardtop.
The fatality occurred just before 1 p.m. Thursday on northbound I-15, near Nichols Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency announced that the rider, whose identity was not immediately released, was traveling at an unconfirmed speed when his motorcycle veered out of its lane and flipped over, rolling several times and throwing him to the side of the freeway, at the Nichols exit ramp.
Witnesses immediately stopped to assist, and when they found the victim unresponsive, CPR was started, the CHP said.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within minutes and also attempted resuscitative measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The off-ramp was shut down while a preliminary investigation was conducted and the wreckage was removed.
The closure was lifted shortly after 3 p.m.
