The South Coast Air Quality Management District Saturday issued a windblown dust advisory in the Coachella Valley for the next three days.
The advisory was effective from 4 a.m. Saturday until noon Monday due to wind gusts of up to 40 mph expected in the area. Affected cities include Banning, Cathedral City and Indio.
“Gusty winds are causing blowing dust with particle pollution levels in the good to hazardous Air Quality Index categories in parts of the Coachella Valley,” the SCAQMD announced.
The public was advised to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity.
Strong winds were expected to peak Saturday night through Sunday when gusts of up to 65 mph were predicted to hit the Coachella Valley.
More information on affected areas and current air quality was available at aqmd.gov/AQImap.
