A protest rally opposing proposed Medicaid cuts by Congress is scheduled to take place next week outside Congressman Ken Calvert’s Palm Desert office, organizers announced Monday.
The demonstration is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 21 at 73710 Fred Waring Drive, according to Disability Voices United, a statewide advocacy group led by and for people with disabilities.
“Congress has proposed $880 million worth of cuts to Medicaid to pay for their tax breaks for billionaires and corporations. Over 15 million Californians are at risk of losing their healthcare coverage, including children and people with disabilities,” the group said in a statement.
The Palm Desert protest is one of several rallies planned across the state, including outside the congressional offices of Rep. Young Kim in Anaheim and Rep. Jay Obernolte in Hesperia.
Disability Voices United said the rallies aim to highlight the impact the proposed Medicaid cuts would have on the American people, specifically disabled people.
