A 33-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a pickup truck turned in front of him, triggering a collision at an East Hemet intersection, authorities said Monday.
Christopher Shick of Hemet was fatally injured just after 11 p.m. Saturday at Acacia Avenue and Yale Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP Officer Jonathan Torres said that Shick was riding his Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 southbound on Yale at an unconfirmed speed when the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup initiated a turn from northbound Yale onto westbound Acacia.
Torres said the motorcyclist did not have time to swerve or brake, slamming into the passenger side of the pickup.
“He was fully ejected onto the roadway,” the CHP spokesman said.
The pickup driver, whose identity was not disclosed, immediately stopped and called 911. He was not injured.
CHP officers, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and fire department paramedics arrived at the scene within 15 minutes, Torres said. Shick was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup driver was questioned but not arrested. The investigation was ongoing.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP San Gorgonio office at 951-846-5300.
