Two people were hospitalized as a result a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 Thursday in Indio.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer David Torres, at 11 a.m. Thursday, a Hyundai Sonata traveling east on Interstate 10 west of Monroe Street and a semi-truck traveling in the same direction crashed into each other.

Torres said it was not clear who was at fault, however, the semi fled the scene, prompting the CHP to consider the collision a hit-and-run.

The SUV’s driver and a female passenger, whose identities were not revealed, had complaints of pain and were taken to John F. Kennedy Hospital in Indio. The severity of their injuries was unknown.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
