The mercury will soar into the triple digits across Riverside County and most of the Inland Empire later this week, which prompted the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue an Extreme Heat Watch for the region Tuesday.
The NWS forecasted the extreme conditions will begin Thursday morning and last through Saturday evening with dangerously hot conditions that may hit temperatures as high as 106 degrees.
The sweltering heat conditions can significantly increase incidents of heat related illnesses and Thursday and Friday will be the hottest days, said the NWS. ”Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” warned a statement from the national agency. ”Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”
