A motorist killed when he slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, causing his car to overturn and eject him onto the Riverside (91) Freeway in downtown Corona, was identified Tuesday as a 25-year-old resident of the city.
Jaren Wilson was fatally injured at 4 p.m. Monday on the eastbound 91, between Serfas Club Drive and West Sixth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Javier Navarro said that Wilson was at the wheel of a four-door 2018 Nissan Versa that veered onto the shoulder of the freeway, crashing into a big rig that had stopped due to mechanical trouble.
“After the impact, the Nissan continued onto the Sixth Street off-ramp, where (it overturned) and the driver was ejected,” Navarro said.
Corona Fire Department paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced Wilson dead at the scene.
The trucker was not injured.
Officers shut down the slow lane and Sixth Street exit ramp because of the crash. A SigAlert was issued due to the ensuing traffic jam.
The closure lasted until 7 p.m. Monday, when the lane and ramp were reopened.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was asked to contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
