A man who allegedly drove drunk and caused a collision in Coachella that slightly injured two other people died Friday at a hospital.

The driver, who was not identified, was southbound on Calhoun Street in a white Toyota Corolla shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Avenue 52, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David Torres said the Corolla struck a power pole, then collided with an unoccupied Nissan Frontier, which was pushed into a taco truck occupied by a man and a woman. Those two people complained of pain after the crash but dwere not taken to a hospital.

The Toyota driver was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs to be treated for major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday, Torres said.
