The inaugural Pride Equality Walk that was scheduled for this Saturday in Palm Springs has been postponed until next year, organizers said Monday.
“Due to unexpected financial and logistical challenges, including recent changes that have impacted our promotional timeline, we have determined that our current resources are not sufficient to execute the high-quality, impactful event our community deserves,” according to a statement from Greater Palm Springs Pride.
Although organizers didn’t specify the exact challenges leading to the delay, the nonprofit and the city faced financial hardships, including a $35,000 budget shortfall earlier this year.
The nonprofit’s website recently removed any mention of one of its presenting sponsors, Silvercrest, following the arrest of Silvercrest Advertising’s CEO William Frank Rodriguez, who was accused of fatally hitting a Cathedral City woman with his vehicle while drunk at the wheel.
The community walk was expected to promote LGBTQ+ visibility and rights and advocate equality for all while raising funds to keep next month’s Pride Festival free to attend.
Organizers said an exact date for the Equality Walk will be be announced soon.
