Nearly two dozen amateur boxing bouts featuring athletes from the Inland Empire and neighboring locations with Olympic dreams are scheduled in Riverside later this month.

USA Boxing and the Riverside Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department will jointly host the “Arlanza Boxing Club Show” on May 23, with weigh-ins starting at 10 a.m. and ringside action getting underway shortly before 1 p.m. at the Arlanza Community Center in Bryant Park, 7950 Philbin Ave.

Fighters in all weight classes are slated to compete. A total of 20 matches are scheduled.

Adult tickets are $20 a piece, while passes for spectators 11 years old and under are $5.

USA Boxing is a Colorado-based nonprofit that convenes amateur bouts based on Olympic rules, in which fighters are required to wear head gear and follow strict guidelines to score points and not be disqualified.

The organization’s stated goal is to provide a platform for young athletes to refine their skills, gain experience and qualify for trials that may lead to qualification to join the U.S. Olympic Team in future Games.
