The average price has dropped 65 cents over the past 31 days, including 3.7 cents Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 19.5 cents less than one week ago and 64.8 cents less than one month ago, but 94.7 cents more than one year ago.
“Oil prices are trading below $80 a barrel today and gas prices in Southern California have tumbled by about 60 cents a gallon below their highest point of the year reached in early May,” Kandace Redd, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s senior public affairs specialist, said in a statement released Thursday. “But there is still a long way to go to reach the prices that drivers were paying at this time last year. Consumers should continue to aggressively shop around for the lowest gas prices near them using an online tool.”
