For the 48th consecutive year, the city of Burbank has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, officials announced Thursday.

The city shares the distinction with Sacramento as one of the original Tree City USA communities in California, a title given in honor of cities committed to effective urban forest management.

Burbank’s Parks and Recreation Department manages roughly 33,000 trees, including about 28,000 in parkways and 5,000 in parks, “contributing to both environmental sustainability and the city’s aesthetic value,” city officials said.

To earn Tree City USA recognition for 2025, Burbank met the program’s four standards: maintaining a tree board or department, enforcing a tree ordinance, dedicating at least $2 per capita annually to urban forestry and observing Arbor Day with a proclamation or event.

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation is the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to tree planting, with more than 1 million members and supporters.
