Paralympic gold medalist Candace Cable will serve as vice chair of the board that is making a bid to bring the Olympics and Paralympics to Los Angeles in 2024.
Cable said that as vice chair of LA 2024, she is interested in “connecting the bid with my broad perspective on diversity and inclusion, not just disability, but gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race and socioeconomic status.”
Cable has 12 medals, including eight golds, under her belt in wheelchair and ski racing events at Summer and Winter Paralympic games.
She also helped create guidelines and rules for wheelchair racing, which debuted at the 1984 Los Angeles games.
Since retiring in 2006, Cable has done consulting for various groups, such as UNICEF, on how to create events that are inclusive of people with disabilities.
