La Salle High School senior Isabella Marie Marez will be the 100th Rose Queen riding down Pasadena streets on a New Year’s flower-covered float.
The 18-year-old Marez was chosen Wednesday night from among the seven-member Tournament of Roses Royal Court.
Marez is a leadership service commissioner at her school and a youth ministry leader. Marez is a member of her school’s Support Our Troops Club, Key Club, Unbreakable Club, Hispanic National Honors Society and National Arts Society.
Marez is also a junior ambassador for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She said she enjoys painting, singing, golfing and hiking.
Marez said she plans on studying social justice and human anatomy and would like to attend Seattle University, Manhattan College, Regis University, Villanova University, Drexel University, Notre Dame University, University of Pennsylvania or Sarah Lawrence College.
Marez, an Altadena resident, and her six princesses will attend nearly 100 community and media events leading up to the Jan. 1 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game.
Members of the court are chosen based on criteria including poise, speaking ability, academic achievement, youth leadership and community and school involvement.
The other members of the Royal Court are:
— Alexandra Marie Artura, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy;
— Savannah Rose Bradley, Pasadena High School;
— Lauren Elizabeth Buehner, Arcadia High School;
— Georgia Jane Cervenka, La Canada High School;
— Julianne Elise Lauenstein, La Canada High School;
— Sydney Grace Pickering, Arcadia High School.
They are all 17.
“Not only will Queen Isabella and the Royal Court be wonderful ambassadors, these young women will be making a positive impact by contributing kindness to others within our community,” Tournament of Roses President Lance Tibbet after the coronation at the Pasadena Playhouse.
“They have committed to make a difference by supporting Elizabeth House, a non-profit that provides shelter, hope and support to homeless, pregnant women and their children.
“We all have the ability, power and responsibility to help one another. I encourage us all to practice kindness and make a difference.”
