Former U.S. Navy Aviation Ordnanceman Joseph Amador of Monrovia will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game as the Los Angeles Dodgers conclude a six-game homestand Wednesday by playing host to the Miami Marlins in a 4:35 p.m. game at Dodger Stadium.

Amador joined the Navy in 2008 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln when it was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and later with the U.S. Navy Munitions Command CONUS West Division

While stationed on the Abraham Lincoln, Amador was responsible for the construction, maintenance and loading of explosives and small arms in the ship’s armory.

Amador works with veterans at Pasadena City College, Cal Poly Pomona and the American Legion.

The 4:35 p.m. start stems from Major League Baseball’s collective bargaining agreement, where earlier game times are required on travel days to accommodate teams making cross-country flights.
