One person was killed Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights in which a vehicle caught fire — and officers were investigating reports that two of the vehicles may have been racing prior to the crash, possibly at speeds approaching 95 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred about 5:35 a.m. near Hacienda Boulevard, according to the CHP.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. Another person was treated at the scene for a possible injury.

Information on the fatally injured person’s identity was not immediately available.

The carpool and left three lanes of the freeway were blocked while an investigation was conducted into the circumstances of the crash, the CHP reported.
